Particle processes and Macdonald polynomials

Colloquium

Speaker: Prof. Lauren Williams, UC Berkeley
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Mon, May 21 2018, 4:10PM

Abstract: The asymmetric simple exclusion process is a model involving particles hopping on a 1D lattice (e.g. on a line with open boundaries or on a circle). It has been proposed as a model for traffic flow and for translation in protein synthesis. In my talk I will explain how to understand the stationary distributions of the ASEP using various kinds of tableaux. I will also explain how these models are connected to Koornwinder and Macdonald polynomials. Based on joint works with Sylvie Corteel and Olya Mandelshtam.
