Young Tableaux and Symmetric groups.

Student-Run Research Seminar

The field of combinatorial representation theory begins with the fundamental result about the classification of all the finite dimensional representations of Symmetric group, S_n using Young Tableaux. This result opened up a whole new world of classifying finite dimensional representations of many other important groups and lie algebras. In this talk I am going to start with defining Young tableaux and a representation of Symmetric group and finally talk about this famous result connecting the two things. The talk is based on the paper "Combinatorial Representation Theory" by Helene Barcelo and Arun Ram. (I am going to try to make it accessible to everyone, so no knowledge of representation theory and Young tableaux is going to be assumed)
