Expanding Solutions to the Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations in One Dimension

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Ryan Chris Moreno-Vasquez, UC Davis
Location: Zoom
Start time: Thu, Jun 4 2020, 12:10PM

The compressible Navier-Stokes equations are a fundamental model of viscous gas flow. In this talk, we consider solutions to the one-dimensional equations that model gases expanding into a vacuum. In particular, we construct a special class of global-in-time solutions, and show that they are globally stable under small perturbations of the initial expansion velocities. This talk is based on joint work with Steve Shkoller.
