Ribbonlength of folded ribbon knots

Take a long thin rectangular strip of paper, and fold a knot it in, flattening it to the plane. Such a knot is called a folded ribbon knot. The folded ribbonlength is the length to width ratio of such a folded ribbon knot. We give upper bounds for ribbonlength for different families of knots. We give upper bounds on folded ribbonlength in terms of the crossing number of a knot type. We also give a construction showing ribbonlength is sublinear in crossing number for torus knot families. This is joint work with undergraduate students.
