Ph.D. Exit Seminar: Machine Learning Applications for Swine Industry

Special Events

Speaker: Jeonghoon Kim, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, May 24 2023, 2:10PM

The swine industry, as a critical component of global food production and public health, faces numerous challenges that require innovative approaches for effective management. One such approach is the integration of machine learning techniques, which have gained prominence in recent years. We explore the applications of machine learning in the swine industry, addressing diverse perspectives that contribute to advancing the field. Specifically, we first discuss classifying the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus into four subgroups using amino acid scores from the Open Reading Frame 5 gene. Second, we use time series analysis to predict the future burden of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial pathogens. Lastly, we estimate the Minimal Inhibitory Concentration of 12 antibiotics using the Random Forest algorithm and k-mer counting for processing the entire gene information of Streptococcus suis.
