In this talk we will see how one may apply simple concepts from algebraic topologic to understand continuous deformations between different skateboard flip tricks. Along the way we describe the deep connection between the dynamics of a rigid body and the geometry of the Lie group SO(3), as well as the central role played by symmetries and the momentum map. We will also discuss some interesting unanswered questions about this classic dynamics.
