Description

I will give an elementary proof that the Fredholm determinant of a multiplicative commutator trivializes under a naturally occurring joint-determinant-class condition. This leads to an example of quantized trace formulae, relevant to macroscopic quantization phenomena, particularly that of the 2D Hall conductance. The "invisible hand" of K-theory and coarse geometry in this story will also be sketched.
