Description
People’s daily movement generate large amounts of data, from public transit records to vehicle GPS traces and driving behavior data. These datasets provide opportunities to better understand how people move through cities and to address practical transportation problems.
This seminar presents three applications of data analytics in transportation research. The first uses long-term travel demand patterns to identify functional regions within a city. The second explores how vehicle telematics data can complement crash records in identifying potentially dangerous roads. The third examines the effects of automated speed enforcement in San Francisco using quasi-experimental methods. These examples illustrate how transportation data and analytical methods can help us understand urban mobility and inform transportation planning and safety decisions.
