The Jones Polynomial of an Alternating Link

I will first introduce the Jones polynomial, which associates a Laurent polynomial to a link using link diagrams and the Kauffman bracket. After some examples, I will present a theorem and associated corollaries which will help us to determine if a link is alternating by using the Jones polynomial.
