Description
We survey conformally compact structures and their quantum field theory based motivations. In particular we show how holographic ideas are used to efficiently describe geometries living at the boundary of a conformally compact manifold. We also discuss how to extend these ideas to the the study of conformally embedded hypersurfaces.
