Description
Neuroimaging technology has revolutionized the study of how the human brain
functions, how disparate regions of the brain are connected to each other,
and how the structure and function of the brain evolve over time as a result
of normal development and disease. This talk will begin with a brief
overview of some of the current research problems that myself and others at
UC Davis are addressing in order to extract scientifically useful
information from neuroimaging data. Then, I will present some of the
mathematical challenges that neuroimaging researchers currently struggle
with. These challenges arise from variability in topology between brains,
the complexity of the wiring of the brain, and the complex spatial
arrangement of features of interest within the brain.
