Review of calculus; error analysis


Chapter 3 (3.1 – 3.6)

Interpolation and polynomial approximation


Chapter 8 (8.1 –8.6; note that 8.3 can be done if time allows)

Approximation theory


Chapter 4 (4.1 – 4.8)

Numerical differentiation and integration

28-29 Lectures Total (In a normal Fall Quarter, this leaves one unassigned lecture.)

Additional Notes:
Topics may be taken in the order specified above or chapter 4 may be done before chapter 8.

5-6 computation problems involving the solution of stated problems using the computer are assigned throughout the quarter. Normally one week is allowed for the completion of each computation assignment.
There is a midterm and final to this course.
