K-theory in Superstring Physics.

Colloquium

Speaker: Eric Gimon, Berkeley
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Mon, Nov 24 2003, 4:10PM

Recent developments in string theory have made K-theory an important tool for classifying many matter fields and extended objects. I will give an introduction tothe elements classified by K-theory, and to the physical motivation behind this classification. After reviewing the basics constructions and applications involving K-theory, I will spotlight the limitations of this tool which point towards fruitful future investigation.
