Black rings are rotating black hole solutions of 4+1-dimensional supergravity. Recently, we have found supersymmetric black rings with three gauge charges and regular event horizons. When lifted to ten dimensional supergravity, the charges have interpretations as D-brane charges, and hence it is interesting to ask for a string theoretic interpretation of black rings. In this talk we describe first how 2-charge black rings are related to string theory objects known as 2-charge supertubes. We then present the 3-charge supersymmetric black rings, and discuss three-charge supertubes.
