We consider the problem of last passage percolation (with general random variables) in thin rectangles and prove that the fluctuations of the last passage time are given by the Tracy-Widom GUE distribution. We explain connections to random matrix theory, Dyson's Brownian motion, and nonintersecting Browninan motions. This is joint work with J. Baik.
