The Virasoro algebra is an easy-to-describe infinite-dimensional Lie algebra which does not belong to any, big or small, class of Lie algebras. Its representations are important in various applications (no details in my talk) and very interesting by themselves. I will describe the major representations and will show some (sometimes surprizing) relations between them. No prerequisites.
