Juggling and Braids

Student-Run Geometry/Topology Seminar

Speaker: Emi Arima, UCD
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Thu, Mar 8 2007, 1:10PM

There are many mathematical implications of juggling. In this talk I would like to explore the relationship between juggling patterns and braids. This will entail a description of how to mathematically describe a juggling pattern, after which we must define a map from such juggling patterns to braids. The ultimate question we want to answer is: What braids can be realized via juggling patterns? A great reference for this talk is "Juggling Braids and Links" by Devadoss and Mugno (which is available on arxiv).
