Ricci flow and geometry

Colloquium

Speaker: Xiaodong Cao, Cornell University and MSRI
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Tue, May 1 2007, 4:10PM

In this talk, we will talk about Hamilton's Ricci flow and its fundamental properties, including short time existence, its long time behaviors, singularities, Ricci solitons, and its applications to geometry, especially for Riemannian manifolds with positive curvatures. We will study the type I solutions and their dilation limits. We will also talk about recent results of Perelman and Bohm-Wilking.

Refreshments will start at 3:50 in MSB 1147. Dinner will follow the Colloquium.
