Band connected sum of knots and genus

The band connected sum of two knots k_1 and k_2 gives rise a new knot k. A natural question to ask is how the knot genus behaves under such operation, in other words is it additive? Well, the answer is that it is supperadditive. In this talk I will show this fact based on Gabai's paper.
