Asymptotic front speeds in random flows

PDE and Applied Math Seminar

Speaker: Jack Xin, University of California at Irvine
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Thu, Feb 21 2008, 11:00AM

An overview will be given on reaction-diffusion fronts in random flows and related homogenization of stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi equations. Variational formulas of front speeds of Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piskunov fronts will be derived from large deviation properties of the random flows. Asymptotics and computations of front speeds based on variational principles will be shown for various compressible and incompressible random flows.
