Let $k$ be a field. We will set up the basic notions of affine $n$-space $k^n$ and study the connections between affine algebraic varieties and radical ideals of the polynomial ring $k[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$. We'll discuss some of the basic results of computational algebraic geometry. If time remains, we will explore the connections between Groebner bases and convex polytopes.
