Chesson and Warner (1981) proposed a lottery competition model and showed that temporal variability (or seasonality) in environments is one of the important factors limiting the number of coexisting species. In this talk, we investigate the dynamics of periodic lottery competition models with period k, and show that n species can coexist if and only if k>n or k=n. Furthermore, we consider a generalization of this result.
