There is a well-known link between the geometry of the Grassmannian Gr(n,k) and the combinatorics of tableaux, which yields alternate, geometric, proofs of identities such as the Littlewood-Richardson rule. In this talk, I will explain what the (Complex) Grassmannian is and introduce the Schubert Varieties, which connect the combinatorics of tableaux to the cohomology of Gr(n,k). No prior knowledge of homology will be assumed.
