The many facets of the Kostka polynomials.

Colloquium

Speaker: Anne Schilling, M.I.T.
Location: 693 Kerr

Kostka polynomials arise in many different areas of mathematics and physics. In this talk we will discuss their relation to the theory of symmetric functions, the Bethe Ansatz, and crystal base theory. As a result one obtains different expressions for the Kostka polynomials in terms of tableaux, rigged configurations and paths, respectively. Of particular interest is a bijection between tableaux and rigged configurations. We will show that this bijection is well-behaved with respect to level-restriction and thus obtain new expressions for level-restricted Kostka polynomials.
