On the Grassmannian, Nonnegative Matrices, and Juggling Patterns
Student-Run Discrete Math SeminarSpeaker: | Michelle Snider, UCSD |
Location: | 2112 MSB |
Start time: | Thu, Oct 9 2008, 1:10PM |
A current area of study in algebraic geometry is possible stratifications of the Grassmannian. We will discuss the work of Postnikov on this problem, as well as recent updates by Knutson, Lam, and Speyer on a refinement of the Bruhat decomposition that uses cyclic shifts. We will also show how this relates to totally nonnegative matrices and to juggling patterns.
