Pigeons, Parties, and Arithmetic Progressions: A Colorful Walk Through Ramsey Theory
Student-Run Discrete Math SeminarSpeaker: | Matthew Stamps, UC Davis |

This talk is meant to be a friendly introduction to Ramsey theory, a field often associated with extremal graph theory. The basic question we consider is for a graph G, how large must a complete graph on n vertices be in order to guarantee that any edge coloring with m colors yields a monochromatic G. I aim to introduce a number of such results along with an application to number theory.
