The cocktail party problem and Algebraic Geometry

Colloquium

Speaker: Dan Edidin
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Mon, Nov 3 2008, 4:10PM

Given a recording of a group of people talking (say at a cocktail party) is there an algorithm to distinguish a single person's voice? In this talk we explain how the geometry of the Grassmannian can be used to give insights into this difficult problem in engineering.

Refreshments will be served before the talk.
