This work focuses on a long-standing problem in statistical mechanics: to prove that a quantum particle which is coupled to a thermal reservoir, exhibits diffusive motion. In collaboration with Juerg Frohlich and Alessandro Pizzo, we prove this conjecture in a slightly simplified model (we replace the thermal reservoir by a spatial array of thermal reservoirs). I will discuss the model, the idea of the proof and related results.
