Introduction to Go
Student-Run Discrete Math SeminarSpeaker: | Tom Denton, UC Davis |
Location: | 2112 MSB |
Start time: | Thu, Apr 16 2009, 1:10PM |
Known as one of the world's oldest board games, Go remains one of the most difficult to master in spite of its simple rules. I will present the rules of the game, explain the concepts of life and death, and present some of the many recurring patterns that arise in play. I will also discuss why the game is so difficult computationally; the best Go AI's can be beaten by a skilled amateur. I will also bring along a couple extra boards so people can try the game over tea, following the talk.
