Ion Concentration Dynamics and Neuronal Excitability; Synchronization in Interacting Populations of Oscillators

Mathematical Biology

Speaker: Ernest Barreto, George Mason University, Department of Physics & Astronomy and The Krasnow Insti
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Thu, Oct 8 2009, 12:00PM

In this two-part talk, I will first discuss the consequences of allowing the ion concentrations in a model neuron to be dynamic variables. Next, I will describe work on interacting populations of oscillators, i.e., "networks of networks". Both parts are motivated by observations of seizure-like activity in experimental models of epilepsy.
