Nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, permuted basements, and Demazure characters

I will give an informal introduction to nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, paying special attention to the combinatorics, and a slight generalization of these polynomials will be given. I will also describe how objects related to Demazure characters can be obtained from these polynomials.
