A real-valued function on a Lie algebra is called a quasi-state if it is linear on all abelian subalgebras. We address the question of uniqueness of quasi-states on the symplectic Lie algebra. We discuss links to foundations of quantum mechanics (the
Gleason theorem) as well as to the group-theoretic notion of a quasi-morphism. Joint work with Michael Entov.
