Numerical Simulation of Vortex Rings

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Wolfgang Kollmann, UC Davis Mechanical Engineering
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, Jan 27 2010, 12:10PM

Vortex rings are an interesting class of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations since vorticity is restricted to a small subset of the flow domain. The numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is discussed briefly and results are presented in detail for vortex rings with swirl. In particular vector lines and vector surfaces for the interpretation of the results are defined and their geometric properties illustrated.
