Large scale geometry and rigidity

Student-Run Geometry/Topology Seminar

The asymptotics of a space can put severe restrictions on its geometry. I will talk about hyperbolic metric spaces which have a 'boundary at infinity' that describes the large scale structure of the space. To illustrate the restrictions that can occur I will discuss Mostow's rigidity theorem.
