Alternating Sign Matrices, Fully Packed Loops, and the Razumov-Stroganov Ex-Conjecture

The Razumov-Stroganov conjecture relates the ground state of a particular XXZ spin chain Hamiltonian to the number of fully packed loops which induce a given non-crossing link pattern. I will highlight aspects of the recent proof of the conjecture by Cantini and Sportiello, and will give special attention to their generalization of Wieland's gyration operation on fully packed loops.
