Introduction to Phase Retrieval

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Wenjing Liao, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, Nov 16 2011, 12:10PM

Phase retrieval is a fundamental problem in many areas of physical sciences, such as X-ray crystallography, astronomy and electron microscopy. One aims at recovering an image from the modulus of its Fourier transform, because the phase is inevitably lost in many cases. In this talk, I will give an introduction to the phase retrieval problem, and show that the reconstruction can be greatly improved with random illumination.
