Fluid-structure interactions in biology: The size of trees and the shape of fish

Mathematical Biology

Speaker: Christophe Eloy, Aix-Marseille University, France
Location: 2110 MSB
Start time: Mon, Apr 9 2012, 3:10PM

During this talk, I will address two biomechanical problems of fluid-structure interactions. First, I will discuss how the resistance to wind-induced stresses constrains the architecture of trees. Then, I will examine the relation between the shape of fishes and their performance in the case of undulatory swimming.
