In this talk, I will describe the transport properties of a disordered quantum wire. As a function of the wire's length, its transfer matrix satisfies a stochastic differential equation in the weak coupling limit. The random motion of its eigenvalues implies in particular the linear decay of the conductance in the appropriate thick wire limit. Further, I will discuss the emergence of this macroscopic behaviour from a microscopic dynamics.
