Quantum curves.

I'll review my old results about solutions of equation [P,Q]=1 where P and Q are ordinary differential operators (this equation appeared in the study of random matrices under the name of string equation). I'll discuss the possible relation of this equation to the notion of quantum curve and to some constructions that were suggested recently in the framework of topological recursion.
