Schroedinger Maps

PDE and Applied Math Seminar

Speaker: Paul Smith, UC Berkeley
Location: 1147 MSB
Start time: Tue, Oct 8 2013, 3:10PM

Schroedinger maps appear in physics as a Heisenberg model of ferromagnetism. From this system arises a covariant system of L^2-critical nonlinear Schroedinger equations which may be studied using techniques from dispersive PDE. We will give an introduction to the known local and global theory and discuss some recent joint work with Ben Dodson.
