Embedded contact homology (ECH) is a Floer-type invariant of three-manifolds defined by M. Hutchings. It gives rise to a sequence of obstructions to symplectic embeddings, which are sharp in many cases. In this talk, I will explain some of these results. In particular, I will speak about why ECH capacities are sharp for certain ball packings of ellipsoids and more general toric domains.
