Boundary conditions and symplectic duality in 3d N=4 theories

Mathematical Physics Seminar

Speaker: Tudor Dimofte, The Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Fri, Dec 12 2014, 4:10PM

A 3d N=4 gauge theory has a moduli space consisting of (at least) two hyperkahler cones, the so-called Higgs and Coulomb branches. I will discuss a new construction of the Coulomb branch as a complex symplectic manifold. Then I will introduce a class of BPS boundary conditions in 3d N=4 gauge theory whose images on the Higgs and Coulomb branches define holomorphic Lagrangian branes. The correspondence between the Higgs and Coulomb branes begins to explain a recently discovered "symplectic duality" of complex symplectic manifolds in mathematics.

There will be a dinner in honor of the speaker.
