Entanglement in the disordered XY spin chain

The XY spin chain in random magnetic field has provided a model in which several manifestations of many-body localization can be explicitly verified, including dynamical localization and exponential decay of ground state correlations. We will explain how recent work of Pastur and Slavin on disordered Fermion systems can be used to add another property to this list, an area law for the entanglement entropy of the ground state. We also plan to comment on related properties of thermal states, at least in the form of an open problem.
