I will show a proof of the fact that the forced critical surface quasigeostrophic equation (SQG) has a compact finite dimensional attractor. There are nontrivial aspects due to the fact that this is a nonlocal critical quasilinear equation. The compactness and finite dimensionality require a new understanding of the regularity theory.
