Cryptography: the mathematics of open secrecy

Math Circle

Speaker: David Weber, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Sat, Mar 14 2015, 10:00AM

Ever wondered how you could pass a secret message in public without someone being able to catch on? How did Turing and the Brits broke the Enigma code? How we can pass credit information safely over the internet? Have you ever wondered what a random number is, or how to get one? This Saturday we'll address these questions, and several others. We'll touch on cyphers, public key cryptography, RSA, and random number generation. In the spirit of the topic, here's a secret about the morning: JR JVYY UNIR CVR! (hint: it has to do with the date!)
