Asymptitic characteristics of the countable groups and boundaries

Colloquium

Speaker: Professor Anatoly Vershik, Steklov Mathematical Institute, S.Petersburg, Russia and MSRI)
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Mon, May 7 2001, 4:10PM

There are three main asymptotic characterisitcs of the countable groups - logarithmic volume, entropy and drift and some inequality between them. The problem is to find the cases when it becomes as equality and to calculate its. For some exapmles like braid groups and similar to this groups there are new results. The explicit description of Poisson-Furstenberg boundaries will be discussed.

Refreshments are served in 693 at 3:45 p.m.
