The 3d Index and Compact 3-Manifolds

Recently people have proposed a 3d QFT (quantum field theory)-valued invariant for closed 3-manifolds. It is based on a surgery description of a 3-manifold on a link and an ideal triangulation of the link complement. After briefly explaining the invariant and the physics behind it, I will introduce a new “3d index” invariant for closed 3-manifolds which computes the superconformal index of the 3d QFT.
