I will assume only that the audience knows basic facts about the fundamental group. I will discuss van Kampen's Theorem, free groups, amalgamated free products and HNN extensions. I will also link these ideas with groups acting on trees. Then I will discuss ends of spaces and of groups, ending with Stallings' famous theorem describing groups with more than one end.
