Introduction to Wigner Random Matrices

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Alexander Soshnikov, UC Davis
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Wed, Feb 13 2002, 12:00PM

Wigner random matrices were introduced by a Nobel Prize laureat Eugene Wigner in the early fifties in connection with nuclear physics (statistics of the highly excited states of the heavy nuclei). I will talk about some classical and more recent results and the connections to combinatorics, number theory and other areas of mathematics.
