Computing the integral closure of an affine semigroup

Description
We discuss the basic algorithms of {\tt normaliz}, a program for the
compuation of integral closures of affine semigroups, or, equivalently,
Hilbert bases of finite rational cones. {\normaliz}, developed by R. Koch
and the speaker, can also be used to compute the volume and the lattice
points of integral polytopes, integral closures of monomial ideals and
related objects.
